When an emergency vehicle is approaching that is displaying emergency lights and sirens, what should I do?

By Rhode Island law, you are required to pull to the right and stop regardless of what lane you are in. This allows fire apparatus adequate and clear lanes to safely and quickly continue its response.

Why do so many fire apparatus respond incidents?

When there is a fire alarm activation, or there is a report of a fire, The dispatcher most commonly sends; 3 engine companies, 1 ladder truck, 1 ALS ambulance, and 1 fire chief .This is the result of strategic planning and preparation coordinated by the fire chiefs in accordinance with National Guidelines.

Why does the fire truck go to medical calls?

It is the policy of the Cumberland Hill Fire Department, That all career firefighters are required to maintain a Emergency Medical Technician License. This licenses allow the crews to provide emergency life saving care to the sick and injured. Cumberland Hill Fire District apparatus are licensed non-transport ALS (Advanced Life Support) ambulances, Allowing the licensed staff to perform life saving medical procedures. Our companies assist the paramedics from the rescue service to provide the best care possible for the patient. In the district of Cumberland Hill we feel that the citizens deserve the best care possible, this is why we respond to any and all medical calls in the Cumberland Hill Fire District.

How can I become a member of the Cumberland Hill Fire Department?
